Not just a Merchandise Girl

So this past weekend I drove up to Logan, UT to sell merchandise for Jim Brickman. On the way up to the show my producer/co-write Rich Parkinson was playing a few of his classic Hits. The song “Valentine” recorded by Martina McBride came on and I began to sing along. He stopped the song and said, “How cool would it be if you could sing that tonight?” We kept driving.  After we got to the Eccles Theatre in Logan and set up all the merchandise we sat in and listened to Jim do his sound Check. He is INCREDIBLE, oh my gosh! I wish I would have stuck with the piano, Sorry mom. It is so cool to just sit in the shadows and watch how the Big Leagues are played. The amount of work that goes into a simple Piano/Vocal show is amazing. After Jim and his small team were finished on stage, I was able to meet and talk with Jim. Rich so kindly introduced me as “Hey Jim, This is Chantel Lauren. And she can sing Valentine better than Martina McBride” WOW! Thanks Rich, those are impossible shoes to fill but what a nice thing to say. Jim smiled. We talked about song writing, traveling and NASHVILLE! It was so cool to just hear his wonderful words of wisdom. It was such an honor to meet him.

Well, my night was already made at this point. I didn’t think my day could get any better. WRONG. During intermission as I’m selling merchandise Jim’s production manager(NICEST GIRL EVER) came up to me and asked me if I would help Jim out and Sing the 2nd verse of Valentine during the 2nd act of his show. I WAS SO STOKED! YES! YES! YES! I was totally shocked, so many emotions were going through my body. I had never practiced or even warmed-up to sing. And even worse..I was wearing Jeans and cowboy boots (Note to self: Always dress ready to perform). So I went in a sat in the audience for the 2nd act. Then it was time, They turned the house lights on and called me, CHANTEL LAUREN, to come on stage and sing with THE Jim Brickman at the piano. I was seriously walking on a cloud. I sang and it was such a BLAST!

I am so honored and blessed to have gotten the opportunity to sing with such an amazing Songwriter. THANK YOU Jim for letting this random girl you just met sing in front of your adoring fans. It was such a nice gesture and I will never forget it.

..And to think I was just going to sell Merchandise in Logan, UT
